Solidstrip Plastic Blasting Media Products
Solidstrip Plastic Abrasives, developed by DuPont in the 1980's deliver a high stripping rate and consistent performance ideal for paint stripping, deburring and cleaning. Solidstrip Plastic Abrasive products meet military specification MIL-P-85891.

Harder than paint, but softer than most of the modern laminate and metallic material substrates used in the manufacture of products as diverse as aircraft, boats, cars and trains, plastic abrasive media is an ideal product to remove paint, organic coatings, and other coatings of various types. The result is a clean and prepared substrate ready for repair and repainting, without the damage associate with more aggressive blast media.

Solidstrip provide three plastic abrasive products for a range of shot blast applications. The main difference between the products being their relative hardness.

Type II

Plastic Blast Media. Urea, melamine, and Acrylic to Mil Spec and UK Def Spec Urea (Type II)
With a Moh hardness of 3.5 Urea is the most commonly used of the plastic abrasives. It is ideal for many general surface preparation applications.

Type III

Melamine is the hardest (4 Moh) and hence most aggressive of the media, and is predominantly used for industrial applications, such as deburring, and electronic applications such as cleaning printed circuit boards during the manufacturing process.

Type V

Acrylic is the softest of the available media with a Moh of 3.2-3.5 . Its suitability for dry stripping laminates and exotic materials means it is used extensively in the aerospace industry.
